What a catalogue shoot includes
A catalogue shoot runs from a shot list, so the fiftieth product is photographed exactly like the first. A typical list for clothing and accessories:
- Front, back and side of each product, on a model, a mannequin or laid flat.
- Close-ups of fabric, print, embroidery, stone setting, clasp or label.
- One background for the whole set, usually plain white.
- Fixed light and camera position, marked on the floor, so colour and size stay the same across products.
- A scale shot for small items: earrings in a hand, a bag on a shoulder.
Catalogue shoot vs editorial shoot
| Aspect | Catalogue shoot | Editorial shoot |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Show the product clearly | Tell a story, set a mood |
| Background | Plain white or neutral | Locations: homes, streets, gardens |
| Pose and angle | The same for every product | Creative, changes shot to shot |
| Products per day | Many | Few |
| Used for | Marketplace listings, catalogues | Campaigns, banners, social media |
Catalogue shoot cost in India: what to ask the studio
There is no published standard rate. Studios quote per product, per look or per day, and the quotes are hard to compare until you ask the same questions of each:
- Price per product, and how many edited photos you get for each.
- Whether the model, make-up and styling are in the price or extra.
- Whether background clean-up and colour correction are included.
- The delivery size and format, and how many days delivery takes.
For a small catalogue you can run the same shot list at home with daylight, a white sheet and a phone on a tripod.
Catalogue photo size for Meesho and Flipkart
Meesho’s public supplier pages state no pixel size, file size or background rule for product photos (our check of seven pages, 4 Oct 2026), and Flipkart’s seller blog photography guides give no pixel size either (read 4 Oct 2026). Shoot at your camera’s full resolution and resize per platform. Our Meesho image resizer outputs 1000 × 1000, 800 × 800 or 500 × 500 px squares; the Meesho image guide explains what Meesho does publish. For Amazon, follow the image requirements shown in Seller Central.
Frequently asked questions
What is the meaning of catalogue shoot?
A catalogue shoot is a planned product photoshoot in which every item is photographed the same way, on the same background and from the same angles, so the products look comparable side by side in a catalogue or marketplace grid.
What is a catalogue shoot in fashion?
In fashion, a catalogue shoot photographs each garment on a model or mannequin from the front, back and side, plus close-ups of fabric and work, against a plain background. The aim is to show the product clearly, not to create a mood.
What is the difference between a catalogue shoot and an editorial shoot?
A catalogue shoot shows the product the same way every time, on a plain background, for listings. An editorial shoot tells a story with locations, styling and creative angles, for campaigns and social media.
How much does a catalogue shoot cost in India?
There is no standard rate; studios quote per product, per look or per day. Ask each studio for the price per product, the number of edited photos per product, whether the model and editing are included, and the delivery size.
What size should catalogue shoot photos be for Meesho?
Meesho does not state a pixel size on its public supplier pages (checked 4 Oct 2026). Shoot at your camera’s full resolution and resize per platform; our Meesho image resizer outputs 1000 × 1000, 800 × 800 or 500 × 500 px.
