Convert to A4 size image: Fit or Cover, worked example
Take a 1200 × 1600 px phone photo and convert it to A4 portrait at 300 DPI (2480 × 3508 px). The photo is a little wider in shape than an A4 page, so the two modes differ:
- Fit: the photo is scaled to 2480 × 3307 px, so the whole picture shows with a white band of about 100 px (8.5 mm) at the top and bottom.
- Cover: the photo is scaled to 2631 × 3508 px, so it fills the page and about 75 px (6.4 mm) is cut from each side.
Use Fit for documents and certificates where nothing may be cut off; use Cover for posters and photos where full-bleed matters more than the edges. (Arithmetic from the converter's own scaling, 16 Oct 2026.)
A4 size photo: problems and fixes
- Print looks blurry: the original has too few pixels for A4. Use a larger original or accept a softer print.
- Printer shrinks or enlarges the page: in the print dialog choose Actual size or 100% scale, not Fit to page.
- Wrong orientation: a wide photo on a Portrait page gets large margins with Fit; switch to Landscape.
- File too large to email or upload: convert at 150 DPI, or reduce the JPG with the image compressor.
Image to A4 size PDF with several pages
Select several images at once and Download as PDF puts each on its own A4 page in a single PDF. For other multi-page PDFs from photos, use images to PDF. For exam forms and ID cards that ask for a photo in KB rather than a printed page, use the size tools below instead.
A4 size converter FAQ
What is A4 size in pixels?
It depends on the DPI you print at: 1240 × 1754 px at 150 DPI, 2480 × 3508 px at 300 DPI and 4961 × 7016 px at 600 DPI (portrait). For a normal print, use 300 DPI.
What is A4 size in mm and inches?
A4 is 210 × 297 mm under ISO 216, which is 21 × 29.7 cm or 8.27 × 11.69 inches.
How do I convert a JPG or photo to A4 size?
To convert a photo to A4 size, upload it above, pick Portrait or Landscape, pick 300 DPI for print, choose Fit (whole image, white margins) or Cover (no margins, edges cropped), and tap Convert to A4. Download the result as JPG or PDF.
How do I convert an image to an A4 size PDF?
Convert the image, then tap Download as PDF under the result. If you select several images, each becomes its own A4 page in one PDF.
Will the printed A4 page be sharp?
Only if the original has enough pixels. A 300 DPI A4 page is 2480 px wide, so a 1200 px wide photo is stretched about two times and will print softer than it looks on screen. Use the largest original you have.
Is the photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The page is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the JPG or PDF is built there; the image file is not sent to StitchMagic.
