Wholesale home decor lights: what is on the BIS list
Five lighting entries matter for festive decor orders: LED lighting chains, rope lights, self-ballasted LED lamps, fixed general purpose LED luminaires, dimmers for LED products (CRS schedule). "Lighting chain" means string lights: fairy strings, diya strings, boxed before Diwali.
Two standards from one family separate strings from ropes. LED chains follow IS 10322 (Part 5/Section 7):2017; rope lights, IS 10322 (Part 5/Sec 9):2017; wall or ceiling LED fittings, Part 5/Sec 1:2012. LED bulbs use IS 16102 (Part 1):2012 instead.
Solar lanterns go unnamed there, and their GST differs too: 5% as "Solar lantern / solar lamp" (Notification 9/2025, Schedule I S.No. 437(f)).
Diwali LED lights wholesale: checking the R-number
BIS CARE verifies registered products by R-number: "Enter a valid eight-digit R- no. and just hit 'Go'." Packs without numbers, or numbers returning some other product, mark lots to set aside (BIS CARE).
That schedule sits under an Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021, S.O. 1248(E), dated 18 March 2021; S.O. 2204(E), 5 May 2026, amended it most recently (Gazette of India). Old supplier certificates may predate such changes.
Festival buying runs fast. Verify one pack per design, not one per carton, and save dated screenshots.
Decoration lights wholesale: four checks before you pay
- Name each item as BIS does. Fairy strings: LED lighting chain. Tube lights: rope light. LED bulb: self-ballasted LED lamp.
- Find each pack’s R-number; enter it in BIS CARE. Eight digits; confirm whatever product appears matches your pack.
- Confirm HSN and 18% on your tax invoice. Christmas-tree lighting sets: 9405 31 00 if LED-only, else 9405 39 00. Other lines: GST portal HSN search.

Worked example: a Diwali carton with two GST rates
October, Meesho stock: LED string lights plus solar lanterns from one supplier. Strings count as LED lighting chains, so registration gets verified, 9405, 18%. Lanterns go unnamed in CRS and pay 5%. One invoice, two lines, two rates; billing both at one rate gets one wrong.
Wholesale xmas decorations and festive lighting sets
Tariff lines exist for "lighting sets of a kind used for Christmas trees": 9405 31 00 (LED-only) and 9405 39 00 (others) (GST portal HSN master, read 11 Oct 2026). Festivals change nothing for BIS: LED Christmas strings count as LED lighting chains, exactly like Diwali strings.
Both fall within heading 9405: 18% GST (Notification 9/2025, Schedule II S.No. 614). Tree decorations without lights aren’t lighting sets; our sources give no rate, so none appears here. Every LED code: our LED lights HSN page.
